Some might call it chance or others fate, Terra calls it good old fashioned flirting that brought them together, but not hers, Jake’s.
If you ask Jake, he’ll tell you that Terra made the first move — asking if the seat next to him, in a busy coffee shop, was free. What Jake leaves out is that Terra was looking for an outlet for her dying laptop battery. He also leaves out his pick up line, asking if her laptop caused back pain. A quip at its size.
While struck by his blue eyes, she wasn’t too impressed by his ‘dad humor,’ but he persisted and soon they had exchanged numbers. Jake had to leave town for work and their first calls were long, often lasting deep into the night.
When Jake returned they chatted via Skype, but he had failed to reveal he was living temporarily with his mother. Terra noticing feminine decor in the background began to assume he was married and hijinks ensued. Somehow Jake still managed to get that first date and explained himself.
Together we’ve bested many changes, like Jake’s career moves, the loss of loved ones, the earning of our both our college degrees, the unearthing of new family discoveries, and raising teenagers (whew!!). We’ve discovered that we are at our best when supporting and encouraging one another through tough times and while reaching further to better ourselves.
